In this aquaponics system we have 2 media beds that go to an aeroponics/dwc bed that drain through a bucket worm tea maker to a nft back to the fish tank.. Hybrid aquaponics: the hybrid aquaponics is the third method and this method is actually a combination of both the raft-based aquaponics growing system and the media-based aquaponics system. in this system, the media beds act as the pre-filter for the solid waste before the water goes into the raft systems.. These aquaponics hybrid urban growing systems can be scaled to size and can be replicated. they can be modified to be operated off grid as well as expanded as the need arises..
The most simple definition of aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants) that grows fish and plants together in one integrated system. the fish waste provides an organic food source for the plants, and the plants naturally filter the water for the fish.. We have spoken to them and they are interested in trialling a smaller (1000 or 2000 litres) aquaponics system, but i was hoping to try out a hybrid system with them so that they got the benefits of both styles, and we can then use it as a bit of a testing ground..
